Third Culture Tales Los Angeles

April 11, 2025 - AstraLab

On April 11, Third Culture Tales made its Los Angeles debut with an unforgettable night of storytelling, music, and deep connection at AstraLab. In true TCT fashion, the room was filled with warmth, openness, and a shared curiosity about the complexity of identity in a globalized world.

The evening opened with a welcome from Nazy, founder of Diaspora Arts Connection, who set the tone with a personal reflection on heritage, migration, and the power of collective voice. Her story reminded us why spaces like TCT matter—especially in cities like LA, where cultures collide and coexist daily.

Next up was Liz, who shared a fast-moving, thought-provoking story about living across continents, identity, and what it means to feel rooted in community rather than place. Her background as an organizer and DJ brought a pulse and rhythm to her words.

Matt Lieb brought laughter and sharp commentary with a story that blended personal chaos with cultural commentary. Known for his work on Bad Hasbara and Good Mythical Morning, Matt’s presence gave the night both levity and insight.

Akanksha, a writer and Moth StorySLAM winner, closed out the storytelling portion with humor and heart, weaving together immigrant awkwardness, family expectations, and the surprising ways we grow into ourselves. Her sharp wit and emotional honesty had the crowd hanging on every word.

The evening wrapped with an atmospheric, genre-bending musical set by Andrew & Casey of Signal Bleach, who fused psychedelic textures with industrial moods. Their set reminded us that music, like story, transcends language and culture—and can shake something loose inside us without saying a word.

Third Culture Tales: LA brought together strangers, stories, and sounds into something deeply intimate and unforgettable. It was a reminder that even in one of the busiest cities in the world, there’s still room to slow down and listen.
